Are you a novice or beginner hair extension artist looking to break further into the world of hair extensions? Luxury hair extensions are becoming increasingly popular and lucrative, so it’s no wonder why more and more stylists are interested in getting involved. But breaking into this world isn’t easy – there is a lot of competition and it takes integrity, education and discipline to take you to the top of your game! Luckily, with these tips on how to break into the luxury hair extension industry as a newer extension stylist, you can get started on your journey towards success!
SEE AND VISION WHO YOU WANT TO BECOME
The biggest misconception out there is you can have it all while sitting on a beach watching the money flow in. Unlimited days off, not having to work nights and weekends, all that amazing jazz you see on Instagram.
I’m not saying you have to work 'till the wheels fall off! What I am saying is there’s a misconception and a lot of coaching out there that says new stylists can make a successful 6 figure business without putting in the time. Sorry to break it to you, but that’s not gonna happen.
If you’re a hair extension stylist just starting out, Instagram makes it looks glamorous- but you don’t see all the mistakes that are made and the dedication to get to be successful. Think about that Boss Babe stylist you follow and watch their daily posts, I guarantee there was sweat, tears, and hours of training to get there.
Staying organized with your finances, reviewing cash flow, and making realistic financial goals is necessary when it comes to being successful- and you need to be ready to pivot and identify the areas where you need to make adjustments. You should be working in your down time on models or doll heads mastering every detail, from perfecting your stitching and bead work to your weft placement. Being an extension artist doesn’t come without hours of practice.
Today's extension artists should not spend all their energy working behind the chair! You will need at least one full day working ON your business. Whether you’re an independent stylist, or a commission stylist working for a team environment. Todays marketing isn’t up to the salon owner any longer, the days of buying business cards, doing ads, and waiting for those walk-ins to come in are long gone. It’s all in the marketing funnel! If you’re not sure what your personal marketing funnel is, I'll be writing on this topic in two weeks. So stay tuned!
THE CLIENT EXPERIENCE IS EVERYTHING Finally, don’t forget about customer service. When it comes to the luxury hair extension industry, word of mouth and referrals are key. There’s way too much competition out there and making yourself known in the industry is essential to gaining new clients and making you name known- SO INVEST IN YOURSELF. Every class you can take, every podcast you can listen to, every book you can read to build your brand: DO IT! Don't waste time, and stay away from low vibration energy distractions and FOCUS on building that brand!
